Jacob's 1 year pictures

My sweet baby isn't a baby anymore. I keep saying that, but it is becoming more and more true...I love every new stage, but can't believe a year has gone by and he's this big already!

Trip to Austin

There was an extended family reunion on my side last week and we thought we'd go and participate. Jeremy (my brother ) and his family live in Austin and we hadn't visited them there yet so it was especially fun to go. This wasn't a typical reunion, it was with people I've never actually met before. But it was a lot of fun to meet some distant cousins and spend time with them. Our reunion had bingo, which was a lot of fun and consisted of cash prizes of which I did not win any. And there was an auction which was one of the funnest things I've participated in. We went to a relative's ranch and they had singing, music, food, swings, animals, horseshoes, etc. Aside from the heat, we had a great time. Here's Jake and Wes in the pool

Here's Brooke (Jeremy's wife) and my nephew Caden
My niece Ashlyn with her super smile!

Momma Vick
Jake and I... this is one of the only times Jake let me hold him that weekend, and it's pretty much because I bribed him with a popsicle. I definitely am second in rank to daddy.

Biking and Mowing

We were given a bike trailer recently from someone at church and we tried it out a couple of weeks ago. Jake has been extremely clingy to Wesley the past few weeks and here's an example of it. While Wesley was checking the tires on the bikes, Jake had to make sure he was right by his side with one hand on Wesley's shoulder. He's very supportive of everything daddy does. Here's the bike trailer. Jake had a great time in it. This is yet another goal that we want to do more of from now on.
Sometimes if I have a meeting or am running errands, Wesley will put Jake in the backpack and mow the lawn. Jake loves it. As long as he's by daddy's side, he could care less as to what he's doing. They really are a cute pair!

Hiking at Castlewood Canyon

We have decided now that the weather is beautiful and warm, to start hiking every Saturday morning to a different place. Not that that's happened, it's a great goal for us this summer. We went to Castlewood Canyon with our friends, the Nelsons. It was a lot of fun and it is such a gorgeous area. Jake on Wesley's shoulders
We walked down a bunch of steps that led to a river

Here's Becky and Mike Nelson with their 3 kids.

Jacob's first haircut

He did really well for his first time. I thought he'd throw a fit. Bless her heart, but the girl cutting his hair was helping to calm him down and the first thing she did was hand him her comb. I was hoping that this comb was brand new, never used because of course the first thing he'd do is shove it in his mouth. I was trying my hardest to not think about this comb previously used by all these dirty little hands and heads and... ugh, no more, you get the idea. It did shut him up so I just kept my mouth shut about it, grossed out the whole time he sat playing with it in his mouth. I guess I could have taken it from him but I have this thing about making people feel bad when they are trying to help so I go along with it, anyone like that? Granted, if it puts my son in danger, I will do whatever I need to. So far, nothing's happened so I think we are safe. I feel the same way about playing with the toys in the doctor's offices. You just never know if it's the sick or well children playing with the toys. I bet those are the germiest toys you'll find, and at a doctor's office no less!
Anyway, Jake did great and now he has a little man's haircut which cost more than a cut for a toddler should but I can't cut hair, so I might be stuck paying 15-20 dollars for a trim.. yuck! BUt he got to sit in a cute yellow car

Memorial Day Weekend in Utah

For Memorial Day weekend we went to Utah to visit Wesley's parents. The last time we had seen them was in Disney World (I guess only 2 months ago) but a visit was long overdue. Jake warmed up to them rather quickly, perhaps to make up for not warming up to them in Florida and we all had a great time. We were also able to see 2 of Wesley's sisters since they live nearby. One of them, Sherri, has a cute dog named Mandy and Jake just loved her (most of the time). Here's Wesley and Jake on Sherri's trampoline:
Mom and Dad Edwards took us to dinner one night to a place called Jeremiah's for some really good steak. Here's Jake with grandma and grandpa on the way into the restaurant. He was matching perfectly with grandma, so cute!
Jake has been giving grandpa a hard time and not warming up to him so well, but as soon as grandpa showed Jacob his sand box, Jake had a new best friend. Here they are reading a book together, one of Jake's favorite things:
Here's Jake and cousin Karli (Sherri's daughter) in the sand box. They played so well together, Karli is a sweetheart.
Jake and daddy on the swing in the yard

Daddy showing Jake grandpa's boat. He found the horn real fast
Aunt Lisa (Wesley's sister) holding Jake.
We went to the Treehouse one day and it has all sorts of fun activities for kids
This is an oversized chair with a granny face (which was chopped off in the picture). Jake was really bored with this part, he just wanted to move on to the fun stuff

Grandma showing Jake the farm animals. Doesn't he look like such a fun student sitting in that chair?

Jake loves to read. This was the Mexico room so it was fitting for Wesley to read a book in Spanish to Jake. That didn't last long, Jake wanted to move on
We went to play with the legos and all of a sudden we looked over and Jake was climing into the wheel barrow, it was so cute. (by the way, I had to double check the spelling of wheel barrow and boy are there a lot of mixed feelings on that word on the web)
Jake sitting on his throne

Cute chess set, especially because it's just Jake's size. I went online thinking we could get one and put it in our basement, fun right? But for $400 just for the chess pieces, I think a mini version will have to do
Future president of the United States... well if he wants to that's fine, but I certainly will not push him in that direction

And my final and favorite picture of my sweet baby - who is definitely not a baby anymore - sitting on a rocking chair reading a book, how precious is that?
