When your paying so close attention to your child's development, a year seems like such long time away to celebrate a birthday so we opted to split it in two and make Jacob's 1/2 birthday something to celebrate. I found a cute idea in Parents Magazine about this so I tried it myself by baking a chocolate banana cake (praises to Mom Vick for the recipe) and cutting it 1/2. We took it to my brother and sister-in-laws house and ate it up for him since he couldn't eat any of it, poor thing. I sure enjoyed his portion though!

Love it!! We've got a first b-day coming up in a couple weeks. Basically the cake is the only thing I'm excited about. So is your mom's banana chocolate cake a secret family recipe or could I try it?

I think that is the cutest idea ever, how come I never thought of doing something so creative like that? After I read you blog about mom's cake I ran to the store to get everything for it, we're gonna make it this week. YUMMY!
